Catalog By Barcode Images

One way to import images into your program is by barcode. This is also an efficient way of adding barcodes to images that will be attached to your lots.

Auction Flex can analyze approximately 350 images per minute.

We have enhanced the user interface of the Catalog By Barcode Image screen to make the process a little easier. The image below illustrates the primary data entry screen.

In the example above, notice that the barcode was read from the first image and automatically excluded from being assigned to the lot. The second image, which is the actual first real image of the lot, is used to enter the consignor code, inventory type, description, and other relevant information. Each additional image can be used to obtain additional information about the lot.

When you click to focus on a specific row, the thumbnail on the left is automatically expanded on the right. This allows you to see additional detail from the large real image. Additionally, there is a built-in image editor for cropping, rotating, and adjusting brightness and contrast. To open the image editor, simply double-click the thumbnail image.

1. Pre-print the barcode lot labels. To do this, select Auction Lots & Preview from the Auction menu in Auction Flex, click the Reports button, and select the appropriate report: either No. 141 Catalog By Image Barcode Labels Dymo 30256 or No. 70 Catalog By Image Barcode Labels Avery 5163.

2. Change your camera to a low-quality setting. (NOTE: Unless you are taking pictures to be printed in a professional glossy catalog, there is no reason to take high-quality images. The consequences of taking unnecessarily large pictures is that they will take longer to transfer from the camera, device, or memory card; they will slow down the barcode image recognition process; and they will slow down the automatic web compression feature in Auction Flex.

3. Affix the label to a lot (or lot tag).

4. Take a fairly close-up picture of the lot so the lot label occupies about 1/4 to 1/3 of the image area. Do NOT use macro mode on your camera.

5. Now take one or more pictures of the lot, but avoid including a visible barcode.

6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each lot.

7. Connect your camera, device, or memory card to your computer.

8. In Auction Flex, select Auction Lots & Preview from the Auction menu and click the Catalog By Barcode Images button. (NOTE: This is different from the Catalog By Images button.)

9. Click the Browse (. . .) button, navigate to the folder where the images are stored and double-click to select it, and click the Next Step button.

10. On the Catalog By Barcode Images screen, you can enter the lot details (consignor code, quantity, inventory type, lead, description, and other information) and, when that is complete, click the Next Step button.

11. Click the Import Images button. Auction Flex will then create your lots, attach the images, and automatically optimize the images for the web.
