Modem Installation Methods

There are two standard methods for installing a modem for use with Auction Flex.

Before going through any installation process, make sure the Modems are plugged into the computer directly. Using a USB hub will not allow the devices to install correctly.

1. In newer versions of the software open the RFM Srvr (or RF Modem Clerking Grid if using the clerk computer), and click the Install Drivers button.

2. When asked whether you want to install the modem drivers, click to confirm.

3. Proceed through the installation wizard, which will install the modem drivers for you.

4. When the installation is complete, navigate back to the RFM Srvr window (or clerking grid if using the clerk computer) and click the Device Manager button.

5. You should now seen a Ports option, showing a COM Port with a number. This is the COM Port you will enter on the RFM Srvr window (or clerking grid).

6. The device should now be ready to test a connection.

If modems are being installed on a laptop computer, it may be necessary to use the external power adapter. This is a two-part installation. You will be installing a USB Serial Port driver and a COM Port driver.

1. Plug the modem into a USB port.

2. If a New Hardware Found window opens, click the Cancel button.

3. Open the Device Manager. This can be done from the RFM Srvr window or the RF Modem Clerking Grid, depending on which computer you are using.

4. Look for Other Devices and right-click USB Serial Port (which might also display as MaxStream or Digi PKG-U Serial Port Adapter) and choose Update Driver Software.
