Antivirus Software Issues

Antivirus software can be a real pain at times. It can hide in the guise of networking issues. It can prevent records from locking in the software. It can prevent access to the data entirely. Below are a few scenarios and solutions to try.

The first thing to try will be going into the Windows Firewall and setting an exception for Auction Flex. If the customer doesn’t care about the firewall (some don’t), you can disable the firewall altogether, but this is not recommended.

You can also try implementing an exception in the specific antivirus software that the customer is using. This may require some research on your part, as every antivirus program is unique.

When selecting the program for which you want to create an exception, make sure you are selecting the Auction Flex folder location (C:/AuctionFlex). For some antivirus programs, it is important that you select the folder. For others, you may be able to simply select the AuctionFlex.exe program file.

If you are unable to set an exception using Option 1 or Option 2 above, you can try performing a repair install of the Auction Flex installation.

Below are a few antivirus programs we’ve encountered and solutions to try for each. After successfully performing any of the fixes below, restart the computer and determine whether the .exe file gets removed again, just in case.

Exceptions/fixes may not be possible when the following antivirus software is installed:

  • Avast
  • AVG
  • Kaspersky
  • Webroot
